Title:  Physical Layer Security: Towards Practical Performance Measures and CSI Assumptions

Abstract:

Over 10 years of active research in physical layer security within the communities of wireless communications and information theory has made significant theoretical breakthroughs in this emerging paradigm for communication security. With more attention paid to the potential of physical layer security towards practical implementation, researchers have started questioning the practical implications of the commonly-used secrecy metrics and system assumptions. This talk will focus on the existing secrecy metrics and discuss their limitations. Then, we look at a couple of newly developed secrecy metrics which allow further insights towards practical designs. The talk will also discuss the role of channel state information (CSI) in analyzing and designing physical layer security. Recent results with practical CSI assumptions will be presented.

 

Bio:

Xiangyun Zhou received the Ph.D. degree from the Australian National University in 2010. From 2010 to 2011, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Oslo in Norway. He went back to the Australian National University in 2011 and currently works as a Senior Lecturer. His current research topics include physical layer security, energy harvesting, wireless power transfer, stochastic geometry, HetNets and small cell cellular networks.

 

Xiangyun currently serves on the editorial board of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS and IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS. He also served as a guest editor for IEEE COMMUNICATIONS MAGAZINE's feature topic on wireless physical layer security in 2015. He was a co-chair of the ICC workshop on wireless physical layer security at ICC'14 and ICC'15. He was the chair of the ACT Chapter of the IEEE Communications Society and Signal Processing Society from 2013 to 2014.
