Precision measurement with penning trapped ions
The penning trap system
The penning trapped ion system utilize uniform magnetic field and electric field to confine the ions in the space. Here we use Ca ions to do the study. Actually, in the penning trap, the ions could form a planary ion crystal. Just like a disk, the ions are rotate about the magnetic field lines. The mechanical property of these ions will be studied. Such as the vibration of the ion crystal.

The electrode
We have machined the core of our penning trap-the gold plated electrode. This five electrode penning trap could be tuned to be very hamonic for ion trapping.
