Unravelling valleytronics in nonlinear optical effect

Valleytronics has been considered to be a fascinating information storage unit with ultrafast kinetics and low energy consumption. While most valley-dependent currents are triggered by electrical approaches, optical methods still await further investigation as its noncontacting and noninvasive character. Recently, we disclose the valleytronic aspects in nonlinear optical process, such as bulk photovoltaic effect. We use a PT-symmetric antiferromagnetic monolayer to illustrate it. It has been found out that Neel vector L strongly affects the magnetic space group, and the photocurrent can be well modulated. Valley-dependent currents are also explored. Furthermore, we show that L-dependent ferrotoroidicity appears in the system. This ferrotoroidicity completes the missing piece in other primary ferroic orders, namely, ferroelasticity, ferroelectricity, and ferromagnetism.
