摘要：

This paper discusses conservation and regeneration of historic districts in the background of fast urbanization. The objective is to find out appropriate solutions for a historic district and to keep its special cultural value based on interview with local people and investigation in communities of historic districts. Through analyzing the historical and cultural value of the Sanxue Alley Historic District of Xi’an, China, and examination of current situation of the district, the authors find out some problems in the district and points out that some policies for conservation and regeneration of the area, including progressive revel preservation and renewal policy, protection of aborigines and guarantee the continuity of history and authenticity and to conduct function replacement.
