论文名称:Aerodynamic performance of three flapping wings with unequal spacing in tandem formation

摘要:To better understand the aerodynamic reasons for highly organized movements of fying organisms, the three-fapping wing
system in tandem formation was studied numerically in this paper. Diferent from previous relevant studies on the multiple
fapping wings that are equally spaced, this study emphasizes the impact of unequal spacing between individuals on the
aerodynamics of each individual wing as well as the whole system. It is found that swapping the distance between the frst
and second wing with the distance between the second wing and the rearmost wing does not afect the overall aerodynamic
performance, but signifcantly changes the distribution of aerodynamic benefts across each wing. During the whole fapping cycle, three efects are at play. The narrow channel efect and the downwash efect can promote and weaken the wing
lift, respectively, while the wake capture efect can boost the thrust. It also shows that these efects could be manipulated
by changing the spacing between adjacent wings. These fndings provide a novel way for fow control in tandem formation
fight and are also inspiring for designing the formation fight of bionic aircraft.
