We use the STM tip as the tool to manipulate the single sheet of graphene.
- A local strain engineering approach to build nanoscale graphene wrinkles has been achieved by STM tip-directed sliding
- Anisotropic residual tensile and compressive strain remains in the vicinity of the wrinkles
- Artificial kink structure could be created on the wrinkles by controlled tip contact
- Kekulé bond order appears near the kink due to the tensile stress breaking the bond symmetry
