Abstract

Decoupling exergy destruction caused by different irreversible processes under varied flame regimes is important to improve thermal efficiency of combustion engines. Thus we have performed a theoretical analysis of local entropy generation and exergy destruction characteristics at engine relevant conditions. We find that the production and consumption of HȮ2 radical and CH2O dominate the exergy destruction behavior during DME oxidation. Thus we suggest that avoiding fuel consumption via low-temperature oxidation paths helps the reduction in combustion irreversibility.
