- 摘要:
- China’s fast urbanization and rapid economic growth have brought enormous change in cities. As a tangible expression of cultural and social history, urban heritage connects the past, the present and the future. Traditional Chinese urban heritage adopts indigenous system of construction and its planning retains ecological implications. It is of great importance to conserve historic and cultural resources in the fast urbanizing China. This paper takes a historic city of Xi’an as an example to discuss the transformation of traditional Chinese city patterns. Xi’an has more than 3,000 year’s documented city development history, and 13 dynasties had held it as their capitals. The city is also the starting point of the Silk Road. Today, the city still accommodates the city wall of the Ming Dynasty and many other historical heritage sites. This study mainly explores the historical transformation process of Xi’an and advocates territory-based development to combine urban heritage with people’s living demand. It is important to preserve the identity of a place in urban transformation process since China’s post-reform urban development need to fully respect the past of a city.
