Fracture Mechanics Lab
Institution: Xi'an Jiaotong University
Department: Department of Civil Engineering
The research conducted in the Fracture Mechanics lab focuses on computational mechanics, with particular emphasis on generating characterisation, comparison, and/or proof data for materials in terms of fracture toughness, strength, static and cyclic behaviour, pressure performance, and creep properties. The modeling approaches developed by the group have enabled a fundamental understanding of micro-mechanisms in engineering components, the prediction of material instabilities, and the simulation of concurrent fracture propagation across multiple scales. Computational mechanics and Artificial Neural Networks form the pillars of their scientific work. Interdisciplinary collaborations have allowed the group to deploy modeling strategies in civil engineering, railway engineering mechanical engineering, and materials science.
