Basic Information

Professor Xiaofeng Zhang joined the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2024, serving as the director of the XJTU-NIN-Hitachi Joint Research Center. His research interests include advancing in situ electron microscopy technology and its applications in materials science. Professor Zhang received his Ph. D degree from the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 1994 and has worked in four internationally renowned national research centers in Germany and USA such as the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA.  His research covered electron microscopy on high-Tc superconductors, carbon nanotubes, nanomaterials, high-temperature structural ceramics, and semiconductors.  Dr. Zhang has published more than 100 papers on the peer-reviewed Journals which have been cited over 10,000 times.  He has also served as the funding proposal reviewer for the NSF in the USA and the project reviewer for a couple of national user facilities in the USA. Later, he transitioned to the electron microscope manufacturing industry and nanomaterials industry where he held a senior technical leader position.
