Advisor Biography

Sida Liu, Professor at the School of Aerospace and Astronautical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, doctoral supervisor, and nationally recognized young talent. A core member of the "Multiscale Mechanics and Intelligent Design of Advanced Materials and Structures" team at Xi'an Jiaotong University and the "Micro/Nano Grain Refinement Technology and High-Performance Aluminum Alloy" team at Shandong University. His research focuses on the development of high-performance lightweight alloys for extreme conditions, leveraging grain refinement technology and data-driven approaches. He independently developed the Al-TCB grain refiner series, which has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in enhancing the performance of aluminum alloys. These products have been applied by enterprises such as Aluminum Corporation of China (CHALCO), Huawei, and Tenneco Inc., and have been exported to over ten countries, including Germany, Italy, and South Korea. He has led in eight major projects, including National Young Talent programs, the Ministry of Science and Technology's key R&D projects, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grants. He has authored over 50 SCI-indexed papers as the first or corresponding author in journals such as Chemical Reviews, Science Advances, Acta Materialia, and Compos. Part B Eng. Additionally, he holds four authorized national invention patents. He serves as a council member of the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Materials Research Society, a project reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a youth editorial board member for leading journals such as Materials Research Letters and Journal of Materials Science & Technology. His research achievements have been featured by media and organizations, including CCTV International Channel, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and major platforms like Toutiao.

Recruitment Information

Master's and PhD Recruitment: We welcome outstanding researchers from various fields to join our team for master’s and PhD-level research.

Disciplines: We encourage interdisciplinary studies. Researchers with backgrounds in materials science, mechanics, AI, mechanical engineering, biology, physics, and other STEM fields are welcome. There are openings for 2 PhD students and 3 master’s students per year, with additional opportunities for international students at both the master’s and PhD levels.

Requirements: Applicants should have outstanding research achievements, a strong work ethic, good character, and the ability to collaborate in a team. We seek individuals with a long-term commitment to fundamental research or industrial R&D.

Research Model: The research topics are closely linked to industry and emphasize solving practical problems. The team environment is relaxed and equal, with no non-research-related tasks. Each project has dedicated guidance from experts.

Joint Training: We offer a joint doctoral program in collaboration with Prof. Jian Lv of City University of Hong Kong. Students will spend 3 years at Xi'an Jiaotong University and 2 years at City University of Hong Kong. Prof. Lv will personally guide students, and they will receive dual PhD degrees from both Xi'an Jiaotong University and City University of Hong Kong (Ranked 82 in the 2024 Times Higher Education rankings).
